Formed in 2013, the M&J Jazz Combo is a versatile five-member spin-off of the full M&J Big Band. While rooted in the same commitment to exceptional musicianship, the combo offers a more intimate performance style that emphasizes small-group improvisation, spontaneous musical dialogue, and giving great players room to stretch out and play.
The ensemble features John Shoener and Jacob Shoener sharing trumpet duties and supported by a seasoned rhythm section of John Buglio on piano, Josh Kovich on bass, and Michael Ryan on drums. Together, they deliver engaging performances that span cool jazz, bebop, latin, ballads, and beloved standards from the Great American Songbook.
Its smaller format and price point make the M&J Jazz Combo the group perfect for settings where a full big band may not be practical. Available year-round throughout Pennsylvania, the group is well-suited for wedding receptions, cocktail hours, corporate events, private parties, and other events that call for sophisticated live jazz that won't drown out the conversation.
