Founded in 2021, the M&J Brass Choir is a premier brass chamber quintet originating from Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Operating as a specialized offshoot of the celebrated M&J Big Band, the ensemble was established to bring high-caliber, intimate chamber music to audiences across Central Pennsylvania and beyond.
The quintet is comprised of five highly accomplished local music educators, conductors, and performers: John Shoener (trumpet), Jacob Shoener (trumpet), Josh Kovich (horn), Britney Bidding (trombone), and Chris Circelli (tuba). Sharing a deep bond of friendship and professional collaboration, the musicians proudly carry forward the region’s rich musical heritage—historically home to legendary band leaders like the Dorsey Brothers and Les Brown.
With a diverse repertoire that spans classical masterpieces, patriotic standards, jazz, and contemporary brass arrangements, the M&J Brass Choir showcases the brilliance, power, and expressive beauty of the brass family. Whether performing in concert halls, at community events, or conducting educational clinics, the group delivers a dynamic, unified sound that inspires audiences of all ages.
